TLS, one page, 7 x 10.5, February 16, 1942. Rockwell writes to a fan. In part: “Thank you very much indeed for your kindness in sending me your very interesting idea for a Saturday Evening Post cover, or Thanksgiving painting. However, I have a hard and fast rule to use only my own ideas, good or bad as they may be….” Rockwell completed one of his most famous covers, “Freedom From Want,” depicting a family gathered around a table with a large turkey on a platter as the focus, in the following year. Very faint show-through of horizontal “lines” to reverse (evidently from an adhesive photo album), otherwise fine, clean, crisp condition. R&R COA.
