Description

King of Great Britain and Ireland (born 1683) from 1727 until his death in 1760. Partly printed DS, signed “George R” at upper left, one page trimmed in size to 13.75 x 9.75, September 26, 1757. A commission for Robert Menzies as captain “in our Nineteenth Regiment of Foor commanded by … George Beauclerk.” Menzies later rose to the rank of major in the 84th Foot and was put in charge of a battalion shipped to Boston to take part in the Revolutionary War. He was killed when American privateers took over the ship, and never set foot on American soil. In very good condition, with trimming as noted, stain at upper left from missing wax seal (lightly touching “R”; faint offset staining to opposite margin), intersecting creases, and light scattered soiling. The signature is dark and otherwise unaffected. R&R COA.
