American politician (1782–1852), much esteemed for his eloquence as an orator, who was a longtime member of Congress and Secretary of State under Harrison and Tyler. ALS signed “D. Webster,” one page, 7.75 x 8.75, no date. Webster writes to Richard Wallach. In part: “The paper which you was [sic] kind enough to put your name to yesterday, was returned by the cashier, on account of an altered figure in the date. I send it, now, with a new one….” In very good condition, with intersecting folds (light vertical fold to last name), wrinkling, a few faint stains, and small edge tears and corner chip.
