Partial bank check filled out in Jefferson’s hand and dated December 30, 1793, 2.75 x 2 (expertly inlaid to a 5.25 x 4.25 slip), signed “Th: Jefferson.” On the following day, December 31, 1793, Jefferson resigned his post as America’s first Secretary of State and retired to Monticello until he was elected as vice president in 1796. Accompanied by an antique portrait engraving. Two faint vertical folds (one each to first and last name) and a touch of mild soiling, otherwise fine condition.
