Including “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes”

Highly regarded American songwriter (1885–1945) best known for the musical Showboat and for such standards as “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.” DS, four pages, 8.5 x 11, May 10, 1944. An assignment of copyright for 36 songs to the T. B. Harms Company “in consideration of the sum of One Dollar and other valuable considerations.” The songs, from the musicals Roberta, Gowns by Roberta, Music in the Air, The Cat and the Fiddle, and I Dream Too Much, include such well-known selections as “(When Your Heart’s on Fire) Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” “Lovely to Look At,” “The Song Is You,” and “I Dream Too Much.” A smaller, unsigned document from the U. S. Copyright Office is attached to the final page. The document is housed in its original stapled folder. Folds and mild soiling and handling wear, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
