Description

Original Dean sketch of a harpooned hotdog

Original unsigned ballpoint sketch on the reverse of an 8.5 x 5.5 off-white flyer for a John Hildenbrand production of a performance of Elektra by Euripides, starring Maureen Stapleton. Dean has created a nearly naked harpooner preparing to spear a dangling and intimidating hot dog, with a giant hot dog roll and jar of mustard to his right, apparently standing by in case of the man’s success. Cloth matted and framed with a nice 8 x 10 portrait of Dean, to an overall size of 16 x 24.5. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from David Loehr, curator of the James Dean Memorial Gallery. Sketch was part of a larger sheet bearing two additional sketches, since separated from the one offered here. In fine condition, with some small flecks of black ink at bottom of harpoon and top of bun. Interesting insight into the mind and fantasies of Dean. R&R COA.
