Description

Aiding an aspiring photographer

Famed American photographer (1902–1984) best known for his monumental images of western American landscapes. Three photography-related TLS on Adams’s personal letterhead, to aspiring photographer Rednor Coombs, circa 1968. A few excerpts: “The pictures you suggest are all possible in fine print form, I am enclosing the brochure on the occasion of my large San Francisco exhibit; it will show a few more images for your consideration…. It occurs to me that, as these prints you are sending me are Polaroid, that I can evaluate them as part of my agreement (as consultant) with Polaroid! Hence, there will be no charge at all!… No especial hurry in showing Polaroid prints; but don’t forget in the relatively near future. I enclose my ‘information sheet.’ As a student-photographer you will be entitled to a 20% discount. You can take all the time you want in payment….” Also included is an unsigned typed letter from Adams outlining instructions for sending prints and noting that “I have asked Polaroid to send you some type 42 Polaroid Land Film. Please keep this confidential….” Mild handling wear and mailing fold touching two signatures, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
