Description

Army general (1880–1959) whose ambitious plan for rebuilding Europe in the aftermath of World War II earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1955. TLS signed “G. C. Marshall,” one page, 8 x 10.5, War Department Chief of Staff letterhead, September 16, 1940. Marshall writes to William March in Elmwood, Connecticut. In full: “It was very thoughtful of you to give me an advance view of your biographical sketch of General Halleck. I am very sorry that the pressure of urgent work in these busy days will keep me from giving your manuscript the careful and appreciative reading which it undoubtedly deserves….” Mild handling wear and soiling with a few faint spots, otherwise fine condition.
