Description

Doubleday (1819–1893), controversially credited with the invention of modern baseball, was also the Union general who reportedly aimed the first shot at the Confederates in the defense of Fort Sumter. Ink signature, “A. Doubleday, Major Genl. Vols.,” on an off-white slightly irregular 5.5 x 2 slip. Light stain to “Vol,” otherwise very fine, fresh condition. R&R COA.
