Tremendous oversized color 20 x 16 photo of Buzz Aldrin on the surface of the moon, walking near a leg of the Apollo 11 lunar lander, signed in white artist’s grease pencil, “Neil Armstrong, Tranquility Base.” Photo is affixed to an identical size piece of rigid artist’s board. Accompanied by an exceptional vintage matte-finish 15 x 18 George Hoxie photo of Armstrong posing with the photo in front of his fraternity’s crest, Phi Delta Theta, and wearing his well-known Omega Speedmaster watch, the only watch flight-certified by NASA for manned space missions. This accompaniment has been matted and framed to an overall size of 19 x 23. The signed photo is in fine condition, with a few scattered light surface marks, a touch of faint rippling from adhesive, and a few trivial edge dings, resulting in just the slightest of surface loss at a few spots along edges. Autograph material from Armstrong mentioning any detail whatsoever of his mission is extremely rare, coupled with the size of the image, and distinct contrast of the signature against the dark background, make this an item of appeal to the discerning space collector.
