Description

Original “Reportrait” of Vidor by artist George Haessler, comprising a stippled-ink portrait with extensive handwritten contributions from Vidor, on an off-white 13.75 x 16.75 sheet, in turn affixed to a slightly larger light blue sheet, and signed in red ink “King Vidor, Detroit, Nov 27 - 59.” Vidor comments on cinematographic art, special problems of direction, and on the ‘grand spectacle and technirama. Some excerpts: “Altho’ many people contribute to the making of a motion picture the individual stamp of the director is the principle ingredient that makes a film interesting or dull…A motion picture is not limited, confined or inhibited. When a family leaves their fireside, their television set, hires a baby sitter and pays a goodly amount for the tickets, let us, for heaven’s sake, make it all worthwhile.” The sheet is also signed by Haessler at lower right. A few glue stains and some scattered light toning, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
