Description

British soldier and statesman (1769–1852) who earned immortality for his stunning defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo and who later served in the British government, including a brief tenure as Prime Minister. Third-person ALS, one page, 4.5 x 7, May 17, 1845. Letter to Fletcher Nolan. In part, “Field Marshal, the Duke of Wellington presents his compliments to Mr. Fletcher Norton. When he will have leave he will have great satisfaction in dining with Mr. Fletcher Norton; and in meeting…the Duke of Rutland at dinner. But in lasting state of the business in Parliament to which is the duty of the Duke to attend. He begs leave to decline to enjoy himself at dinner at all.” In fine condition, with a couple small separations along intersecting folds. R&R COA.
