ROLL OVER, BEETHOVEN: All four BEATLES pay tribute to the German master during a 1963 trip to Sweden

Vintage album of Walter Gieseking playing three piano sonatas by Beethoven, signed on the front cover in blue ballpoint “Paul McCartney,” “John Lennon,” “Ringo Starr,” and “George Harrison, The Beatles.” Accompanied by an original press photo and a certificate of authenticity from Tracks explaining that the signatures were obtained at a hotel in Boras, Sweden, on October 28, 1963. The Beatles embarked on a tour of Sweden on October 23 and played several engagements there over the next week. On the evening of October 28, they performed a concert at the Borashallen in Boras; earlier in the day, they signed records at the Waldele record shop in the same town. The Beatles had recorded their cover of Chuck Berry’s “Roll Over, Beethoven” on July 30, and it was featured on their second British album, With the Beatles; the song was also a staple of their live appearances well into the following year. Light wear and a few small creases to edges, light stains, small spots of skinning very slightly touching a few letters of Paul’s and George’s signatures, and a few stray ink stamps, otherwise fine condition. Despite the patterned background, all four signatures are large, bold, and well contrasted. The record is included. A unique association between these very different musical giants! COA Roger Epperson/REAL and R&R COA.
