Description

Most influential American poet

Controversial American poet whose experiments in radically new forms of poetry blended rhythmic rambling with mystic imagery and celebrated his thoughts on man and society. His masterpiece, Leaves of Grass, led to his dismissal from a job as a clerk in the U. S. Department of Interior because of the book’s reputed scandalously explicit sexual references. Incredibly bold ink signature, “Walt Whitman, Camden NJ,” on an off-white 3.75 x 2.25 card, dated December 14, 1876. In fine condition, with some light soiling, and a faint paperclip impression through first letter of signature. A perfect example for display. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
