Description

Between terms: “Mrs. Cleveland is as good a democrat as her husband”

ALS, one lightly lined page, 5.75 x 8.75, Victoria Hotel, New York letterhead, September 15, 1889. Cleveland writes to E. Peterson in Dayton, Iowa. In full: “Mrs. Cleveland is as good a democrat as her husband and with him claims to success and the usefulness of the Young Men’s Democratic Club of Dayton. She however shrinks from interfering in political affairs to the extent that would be indicated by any communications. She might write to you, and is confident that upon a little reflection you will forego your requests….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Cleveland’s hand and an original composite cabinet photo of Cleveland and his wife. A touch of mild wrinkling and soiling, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
