ALS in French, signed “Lafayette,” one page, 7.25 x 8.75, December 22, 1828. Lafayette writes from LaGrange to General Michaud, his “excellent friend,” in Luzancy, agreeing to endorse political candidates supported by Michaud in upcoming elections. He continues to say that he will pursue the matter when he returns to Parliament, and that it is necessary to get in touch with the Minister of Finance, noting that “the ministers are pretending not to consent to those conditional resignations.” The adjacent leaf bears the address panel and a cracked but intact red wax seal featuring a bust profile of Washington. Intersecting folds, a touch of mild wrinkling and handling wear, and seal-related tear to adjacent leaf, otherwise fine, bright condition. An interesting association with the military colleague he held in such high esteem! JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
