Partly printed DS, signed “John Tyler,” one page on vellum, 14.75 x 13, January 29, 1844. An appointment for George W. Gordon as U.S. Consul at Rio de Janeiro. Countersigned by A. P. Upshur as Secretary of State. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (well away from signature), trimming to left margin (not affecting any text), and a hint of subtle soiling.
