American admiral (1885–1966) who led the Allied naval forces in the Pacific in World War II. Historic vintage matte-finish photo of Nimitz signing the Japanese surrender aboard the U.S.S. Missouri on September 2, 1945, trimmed in size to 14 x 9.25 and affixed to a same-sized heavy card, signed and inscribed in ink, “To Captain T. McKean Downs, MC, USNR—With best wishes and great appreciation of your contributions to the War Effort in the Pacific which made possible the above scene, C. W. Nimitz, Fleet Admiral, U.S. Navy.” In very good condition, with trimming as noted (slightly irregular to top edge), creases mostly to right edge and lower right corner (one through the “t” of “Nimitz”), light toning and soiling, and scattered surface marks. Many of the faults could be minimized by proper matting and framing. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
