ALS in German, signed “Papa,” on a 3.5 x 5.5 German government postcard, no date [postmarked 1916?]. Einstein writes from Göttingen to his son, Adu. In full (translated): “My Dear Adu! I am sending you greetings from here. I will be with you in one month to take a tour with you. It will be very nice. Write to me soon to tell me when your vacation is. If it doesn’t suit, I will take you out of school for one week. How are the exams going? Kisses from your Papa.” The postcard is addressed in Einstein’s hand to “Herrn Adu Einsten” in Zurich. “Adu” was the nickname of Einstein’s oldest son, Hans Albert Einstein (1904–1973), who later became a professor of hydraulic engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
