Early glossy 8 x 10 photo of a dreamy Monroe in a sequined gown, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Butter Ball, Best always, Marilyn Monroe.” The reverse bears the ink stamp of Carlyle’s Jewelers in Salinas, California, perhaps a clue to the identity of “Butter Ball.” In good condition, with creases (including a few to her face, but heaviest at the edges), scattered surface marks, scratches and a few abrasions, tape remnants at corners, and edge tears (a few slightly extending into background). The signature and inscription are clear, well-contrasted, and otherwise unaffected. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
