Description

MARILYN LIKES IT “HOT”:

DS, signed twice on the final page “Marilyn Monroe,” three pages, 8.5 x 11, 20th Century-Fox letterhead, April 17, 1958. An agreement relating to the extension of Marilyn’s previous contract. The most notable provision deals specifically with the film released in the following year as Some Like It Hot. In part: “In the event final arrangements are made for Miss Monroe to render her services in a motion picture to be directed by Billy Wilder, and said motion picture is commenced during either of the months of July or August, 1958, then we will not exercise any right of pre-emption which will prevent Miss Monroe from commencing and continuously thereafter rendering her services in connection with said motion picture.... It is specifically understood that neither you nor Miss Monroe shall have the right to substitute any picture for the aforementioned motion picture to be directed by Billy Wilder....” Some Like It Hot, directed by Wilder and starring Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis, was released in March 1959. Though the on-set difficulties with Monroe became the stuff of legend—Wilder later complained of her inability to remember her lines—the film garnered several Academy Award nominations (and one win) and three Golden Globe Awards, including one for Monroe herself. Long hailed as a classic, its unique status was cemented in 2000 when the American Film Institute named it the greatest American film comedy of all time. Marginal file and staple holes (first page detached), and the slightest hint of handling wear, otherwise fine, bright, clean condition. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
