Disappointing his Native American constituency

TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 10, White House letterhead, July 15, 1955. Ike writes to Flagstaff mayor Edward T. Kerley. In part: “Yesterday Governor Pyle brought me the unique deerskin invitation for Mrs. Eisenhower and myself to attend the Southwest All-Indian Pow-Wow to be held in Flagstaff next year. I understand it is the oldest Indian celebration of its kind in America…. Chances of our attendance are not bright….” Matted and framed in the original presentation (worn) including an unsigned photo of Ike holding the invitation, the mailing envelope, and a TLS from Ike’s administrative assistant to an overall size of 25 x 13. Also included is a vintage woven scarf-like textile with the words “All Indian Pow Wow.” Light toning to letter, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA. Oversized.
