Partly printed DS, signed “R. E. Lee, Capt. Engrs,” one page, 20.25 x 16, July 1844. A payroll roster for mechanics and laborers at Fort Hudson during the month of July 1844, listing approximately two dozen men and the amount of pay. Lee has endorsed on the reverse under a printed certification that “the services charged in the within roll were actually performed and necessary to the repairs of Fort Hudson, and that the wages paid were just and reasonable.” The document is in good condition, with large separations along folds and a few tears (all easily restorable), scattered soiling and some small, light stains, and a few tiny chips. Apart from a red pencil mark in the vicinity of, but well away from, the signature, the signature itself is dark, clear, and completely unaffected, and easily rates as fine.
