Maryland businessman and philanthropist (1795–1873) who financed the founding of the university and hospital that bear his name. Engraved certificate for 13 shares in the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company issued to P. H. Coakley, 9.5 x 6, February 21, 1857, signed “Johns Hopkins” as president. In very good condition, with scattered toning and staining and a few unobtrusive pinholes. The signature is dark and clear. R&R COA.
