Description

Harlow signs for noted bandleader, Vincent Lopez

While filming Saratoga in 1937 with Clark Gable, she collapsed on set and was rushed to the hospital, diagnosed with uremic poisoning. She died days later, at 26 years old. The original blonde bombshell, predating Marilyn Monroe as a blonde sex symbol. Jean was the first blonde to be cast in “bad girl roles.” Before Harlow, bad girls in movies were always dark-haired and exotic-looking. She made over thirty films during a career that lasted only ten years. Vintage fountain pen signature and inscription, “To Vincent Lopez, A great artist - In admiration, Jean Harlow,” on an off-white 7 x 9 guest book page, also signed by three others. Double matted and framed with a wonderful photo of Harlow posing on a polar bear-skin rug, and a small plaque, to an overall size of 25 x 18. Vincent Lopez was a bandleader and pianist, and was leading his own dance band in New York City by 1917. In 1921 his band began broadcasting on the new medium of entertainment radio, which boosted the popularity of both himself and of radio. He became one of the country’s most popular band leaders, and would retain that status through the 1940s. Noted musicians who played in his band included Artie Shaw, Xavier Cugat, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Mike Mosiello, and Glenn Miller. In fine condition, with a light brush to sentiment. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA. Oversized.
