British author, mathematician, and photographer (1832–1898) who, under the pen name Lewis Carroll, published Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass, two of the most popular and durable classics in the canon of “children’s” literature. ALS signed “C. L. Dodgson,” one page, 3.75 x 5.75, December 20, 1873. Dodgson writes to “My dear Chapman” [likely the publisher Frederic Chapman]. In full: “I have never heard from that remarkable young person, about whom you inquire, but I can give you her address—it is ‘34 Warrior Square, St. Leonard’s.’ Believe me, very truly yours….” Double cloth matted and framed with a portrait of Dodgson, to an overall size of 11 x 20.25.
