German composer (1864–1949) whose colorful symphonic poems and operas earned him a place among the most important figures in late-19th- and early-20th-century music. Perhaps his best-known work is Also sprach Zarathustra (1896), which attained iconic status as the theme to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Vintage matte-finish 3.25 x 5.25 postcard photo affixed to a 6.75 x 8.75 card mount, signed and inscribed in fountain pen on the mount, “Mr. Henry W. Norwood, Richard Strauss, London, 26.6.1914.” Framed to an overall size of 7.5 x 9.5. Slightly irregular ink flow to a few letters, and a few scuffs and a touch of subtle soiling to mount, not affecting the signature, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
