British surgeon (1853–1923) who saved Edward VII’s life with an emergency appendectomy shortly before the coronation and who served as the personal physician to “Elephant Man” John Merrick. Ink signature, “Frederick Treves, Surgeon to the London Hospital,” on an off-white 4 x 1.25 slip. Matted with an image to an overall size of 8 x 10. Accompanied by a glossy 10 x 8 photo of the poster from The Elephant Man, signed in silver ink by John Hurt. Faint vertical fold, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
