Description

To his publisher: “Please do all that you can do to assist my protégé”

Important Italian composer (1792–1868) who became one of the seminal figures in the history of opera with such repertoire staples as the Barber of Seville and William Tell. ALS, in French, signed “Rossini”, one page trimmed in size to 4.5 x 7, no date. Rossini writes to Monsieur [Eugène-Theodore] Troupenas, his friend and publisher. In full (translated): “Mr. Calegari will hand you my epistle. I recommend him to you very warmly. He wants a word of introduction to V. Labame. Please do all that you can assist my protégé.” The letter, which bears the address panel on the reverse, has been inlaid to a slightly larger sheet. Accompanied by an unsigned CDV. In very good to fine condition, with trimming as noted, some faint soiling and unobtrusive foxing, and a few light marginal notations. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
