Confederate lieutenant colonel, later promoted to brigadier general, who led the 27th Virginia Infantry into battle at First Manassas (Bull Run) and who was wounded at Kernstown during the Valley campaign of 1862. In very good condition overall, with scattered wear to covers (small separations at joints), volume 1 with slight separation to front hinge and lacking leaf 241–242, and scattered toning and foxing.
