Description

Original “Reportrait” of Ustinov by artist George Haessler, comprising a composite ink and watercolor portrait with extensive handwritten contributions from the actor, on an off-white 13.75 x 16.75 sheet, signed in red ink “Peter Ustinov, 24 Sept. 58.” Ustinov comments on acting, love, television, modern art, education, and more. Some excerpts: “Acting is the imitation of the imaginary—and the finding of a common meeting ground with the public in the inexhaustible field of human experience…. We are all sentenced to be alone on this earth. Love is a parole…. All art was modern once, and treated as such…. Television as such is but a vehicle. Like Liberty and Wealth, its value depends on what is done with it…. If history books were standardized the world over, it would be the greatest civilizing step since the emancipation of the slaves….” The sheet is also signed and dated by Haessler at lower right. A few mild wrinkles and faint adhesive stains at corners, otherwise fine condition. Striking for display! R&R COA.
