King of Spain (1452–1516) and various other principalities from 1479 until his death. Ferdinand and his wife, Isabella, are best known as the principal patrons and supporters of Christopher Columbus’s voyages to the New World. Manuscript DS, in Spanish, signed “Yo el Rey” [I the King], one page, 8.25 x 11.5, September 20, 1506. An official document regarding a lawsuit over the inheritance of Cristobal de Verlanga for lands in the Archbishopric of Granada (then recently taken from the Moors); the case was decided in Verlanga’s favor, “against the lawyers of Montilla.” In very good condition, with scattered light toning and (mostly marginal) staining, intersecting folds (small losses and separations along one fold with early repairs, affecting a few words of text, vertical fold between “Yo” and “el”). The signature is large, dark, and otherwise unaffected. R&R COA.
