Description

Peary offers an arctic lecture “particularly that never to be forgotten journey across the ‘Great Ice’”

American explorer (1856–1920) best known for his claim as the first man to reach the North Pole; whether or not his expedition actually reached the target destination remains a long-argued point of history. ALS signed “R. E. Peary, U. S. N.,” one page, lightly-lined, 5.5 x 9, January 16, 1896. Letter discussing his lecture available for presentation. In part, “My lecture is illustrated (100-150 slides) & shows every phase of arctic life & surroundings, particularly that never to be forgotten journey across the ‘Great Ice’ to the shores of the Arctic Ocean.” Intersecting folds, and well done repairs to folds on reverse, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
