DEFENDING THE BAY STATE: HANCOCK appoints a captain in the Massachusetts militia

Self-contained partial DS, one page, 14 x 7.25, no date. An appointment for Thomas Savoury as “Captain of the eighth Company, in the fourth Regiment and in the second Division of the Militia of the Commonwealth comprehending the Country of Essex.” The embossed paper seal remains intact at upper left. Matted with two color images to an overall size of 23.25 x 22.25. Intersecting folds (a few tiny holes), light wrinkling and soiling, and a few small spots of foxing, no faults affecting the bold signature, otherwise fine, bright condition.
