Description

‘Big Train’ takes the Nationals reins

Johnson, whose famous deadly fastball earned him the nickname “Big Train,” was one of the first five original Hall of Fame inductees in 1936. In 1999, the Sporting News named him the fourth greatest player—the highest-ranked pitcher—of all time. Vintage 6.25 x 5.25 newspaper photo of Johnson signing his contract to manage the Washington Nationals in 1929 as Clark Griffith and Edward Lynon look on, signed in fountain pen, “Walter Johnson.” In fine condition, with a bit of expected trivial feathering to signature. Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
