Description

French physician and politician (1738–1814) whose name became synonymous with the “humane” instrument of execution whose use he proposed to the government during the French Revolution. An untranslated letter to the President of the Council of 500 (the lower house of France’s legislative body from 1795 to 1799) in Paris, evidently involving a legislative matter. In very good condition, with intersecting mailing folds (two vertical folds touching signature), light soiling and wrinkling, and small loss at lower left corner touching a few words. R&R COA.
