Mara regarding a letter sent to Truman by then-President Kennedy, a copy of which is included, in which Kennedy regrets the inability to appoint Mara to the National Selective Service Appeal Board because of a regulation preventing retired officers from serving on the board. Truman’s letter, in full: “I am enclosing you a copy of a letter from the President of the United States, which I have just received. I am very unhappy about this and he seems to be in the same frame of mind. I wish you would talk this over with Harry Vaughan and see what he can do about it.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
