American social activist (1879–1966) best known for her energetic promotion of easy access to birth control. In 1921 she founded the American Birth Control League, which later became Planned Parenthood. Two items: 1951 TLS mentioning the “possibility of a Conference in India next year” and that “the population question [in the Orient] … must be solved by the people themselves which they are quite capable of doing”; and a vintage glossy 4 x 5 photo, signed on the front in blue ink “Margaret Sanger,” and on the reverse, “Margaret Sanger, April 1951.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition, with a few dings to photo and indistinct contrast to signature on image, and tiny spot touching writing on reverse. R&R COA.
