English naturalist and author (1809–1882) whose book explaining his theories of evolution, On the Origin of the Species by Means of Natural Selection (1859), takes a place among the most influential texts in the history of scientific thought. Ink signature, “Charles Darwin, Down, Kent, July 25th, 1877,” on an off-white 4.25 x 3.25 slip clipped from Darwin’s personal letterhead. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from PASS-CO. In very good condition, with very faint toning touching signature, staining (including paperclip stain) and small holes and edge chip to blank portions, and light intersecting folds (vertical fold through “C”). The signature itself is fine and otherwise unaffected and could easily be trimmed or matted for an appealing presentation. R&R COA.
