Description

American statesman (1752–1816) and signer of the Constitution from Pennsylvania who authored several sections of that document, including the well-known Preamble. ALS signed “Govr. Morris,” one page, 7.5 x 9, September 22, 1783. Morris writes to Dr. Jones. In part: “Pray accept my acknowledgements for your attention. Mr. Joseph Wharton whom I formerly mentioned to you, tells me you want to know whether any suit is commenced in the Supreme Court against his lands. I think you had better write a line of enquiry to Mr. Mc— the clerk of the Supreme Court. He will be able … to give all needful information.” Matted and framed with a portrait and engraved plaque to an overall size of 22.75 x 20.75. Intersecting mailing folds, light wrinkling, and scattered light staining touching several words of text and first letter of signature, otherwise very good condition. R&R COA. Oversized.
