Boldly signed LS as president, one page, 7.25 x 9, March 10, 1851. Fillmore writes to J. N. Stokes in Philadelphia. In part: “The copy of the proceedings of a meeting of Whig citizens of Philadelphia which you presented to me … I have to-day referred to the Secy. of the Treasury; and the request contained in them for certain changes in the Custom House in your city shall at a proper time receive due consideration….” Matted and framed with a 19th-century engraving to an overall size of 20.5 x 15.5. Light intersecting mailing folds (vertical fold between first and last name) and slight haloing and offsetting of text ink (not affecting signature), otherwise fine, bright condition.
