Writing to a British general on “your splendid army” months after the American entry into World War I

Commander of the American Expeditionary Force in Europe during World War I and one of the most celebrated soldiers in American history (1860–1948). TLS, one page, 6 x 7.5, American Expeditionary Force letterhead, September 11, 1917. Pershing writes to General R. S. Allison in Norwich, England. In part: “I recall most pleasantly our acquaintance in Manchuria and it is fine to know that we are now doing our work here shoulder to shoulder. I had a delightful visit with General Fowke and was glad to see the important work that his is doing in forwarding the interest of your splendid army….” Matted and framed with a photo to an overall size of 17.5 x 13.25. Some light wrinkling, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
