A four-language ship’s papers issued to Ebenezer Riley, “master and commander of the brig called Eliza of the burthen of 124 tons or thereabouts, lying at present in the port of New Haven bound for Tortola [largest of the British Virgin Islands] and laden with Horses, Corn, Oates, Hay, Pork, Soap, Candles, Potatoes, Lard, Tin, Ware, Flour, Cheese, Cyder, Meal, Sheep, Poultry, & Water.” Signed at the bottom of the English-language panel “John Adams,” and countersigned by Secretary of State Timothy Pickering and Collector David Austin. Double matted and framed to an overall size of 31 x 16. In very good condition, professional silking to reverse, scattered small areas of paper loss (mainly at folds), several creases, and some scattered light toning.
