American lawman and former outlaw (1849–1927) best known for his role as a ruthless enforcer during the Johnson County War. Scarce partially printed DS, signed “F. M. Canton,” one page, 8.25 x 3, May 30, 1893. A certification of reimbursement, filled in in Canton’s hand, stating that Canton used his own team “for the purpose of endeavoring to arrest Jim Butler” and that “the rates charged do not exceed those ordinarily charged by liverymen, and that nothing is charged for feeding the team … [which] consists of hack and two horses.” Tiny spindle hole to printed portion and minor marginal corner bend, otherwise fine, fresh condition.
