Part of a once larger document, labeled “A Copy,” in Lincoln’s hand, of a February 1840 promissory note for $200 which was to have been paid “with interest at the branch of the State Bank of Illinois at Vandalia.” Over sixty-five words in Lincoln’s hand. Accompanied by a typescript on Lincoln Library, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, letterhead. In very good condition, with mild toning to rough edges, small edge tear and chips, and old clear tape repairs and reinforcements to fold separations on reverse.
