Calling the president on the carpet: “I saw the President the other day and told him what I thought of his attitude”

TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, January 13, 1939. Letter to friend Rufus Burrus in Independence, Missouri. In part, “I saw the President the other day and told him what I thought of his attitude. I don’t know whether it will have any lasting effect or not.” Truman adds a handwritten postscript under his signature, “Tell me how the new Court functions.” In fine condition, with horizontal mailing fold through signature, two punch holes to top, and a pencil office notation at top.
