German admiral (1891–1980) who commanded the German navy during World War II and tendered Germany’s surrender to the Allies on May 7, 1945. He was later sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment at Nuremberg trials. Thirteen signed items: eight flight-flown commemorative covers, each signed in blue ink by Dönitz, with several others signing the covers including Erich Topp, Otto Kretschmer, and Reinhard Suhren; a 4 x 6 postcard photo signed in blue ink, last name only; two commemorative covers, each signed in blue ink, “Dönitz”; an ink signature of Dönitz, dated March 27, 1977, on an off-white card; and a brief 1974 TLS, in German, signed “Dönitz.” In fine overall condition.
