In part: “I am this evening informed that a note of Archibald Grace & Sons, not owed by me, was yesterday past tended for sum payment —note being provided to pay the whole note immediately. I owed you $1000 in part payment thereof, and request you to discount my note for $5000, payable in forty days…. I shall endeavor to pay off this note when it falls due.” Matted and framed with a portrait and engraved plaque to an overall size of 14.25 x 19.25.
