Description

Third Chief Justice of the United States and delegate to the Constitutional Congress (1777–1784) who later submitted the amendments which became the Bill of Rights. As a member of the Committee of the Pay Table, Ellsworth was one of the five men who supervised Connecticut’s war expenditures. DS, one page, 7 x 5.5, June 6, 1775. A pay order issued to Major Sam. Elmore in the amount of £53.2.6 for “billeting of the Company under his command.” Matted and framed with a portrait and engraved plaque to an overall size of 19.75 x 16. Light folds, countersignature lightly touching Ellsworth’s, marginal ink spot, and faint show-through from docket on reverse, the signature otherwise flawless, the document in fine, bright condition overall.
