Description

Gift horse? George takes money from his Horse Guard to fund a hospital

King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1760 until his death in 1820. His reign was marked most notably by the loss of British control over the American colonies. Advancing mental illness rendered George unable to fulfill his official duties during the last decade of his life, during which time the Prince Regent, William IV, ruled in his stead. DS, signed “George R.,” one page, 11 x 18.5, May 9, 1781. Document ordering the establishment of a fund from monies deducted from officers of the Horse Guard to support “Our Royal Hospital.” Signed along the top in ink, “George R.” In very good condition, with scattered light edge loss and separations along three edges, moderate toning to top, lightly affecting the “R” in signature, several lines of text lightly underlined, and a light pencil line through a single letter of signature. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
